The Boathouse Cafe
Tucked away in the scenic riverside setting of Millbrook, Guildford, The Boathouse Cafe is the kind of place that effortlessly blends charm with calm. This isn’t just another cafe-it’s a hidden gem for anyone who enjoys lingering over brunch with a view or sipping wine in a place that feels like a warm local secret. With its peaceful terrace by the water and wheelchair-accessible facilities, The Boathouse Cafe is more than welcoming-it's made for everyone.
One of the best parts of visiting here? The menu. You don’t just eat at The Boathouse Cafe-you indulge. The Full English Breakfast comes out hot and hearty, served with all the fixings and a perfectly brewed cappuccino to match. It’s the kind of plate that fuels you for a lazy riverside stroll or a relaxed catch-up with friends. For something lighter, the Avocado Toast or Eggs Benedict are brilliant choices-fresh, flavorful, and plated like something straight out of a lifestyle magazine.
Looking for something to sip while you soak up the ambiance? You’re in good hands. The cafe offers coffee classics like Earl Grey Tea, cortado, and even iced tea for those warmer days. If you’re leaning toward something more indulgent, the Pimps Jelly is a fun, boozy dessert that pairs surprisingly well with a glass of white wine from their carefully curated wine list. Speaking of which, their selection of wines by the glass-along with beer, cocktails, and spirits-makes this place ideal for those after-work moments or long weekend afternoons.
There’s a quiet versatility to The Boathouse Cafe that makes it appealing no matter your mood. It's popular for lunch, but you'll also see plenty of solo diners tucked into corners with a good book or laptop, enjoying a quick bite or slowly working through a pot of tea. There's something grounding about its rhythm-the steady buzz of conversation, the clink of cutlery, the hum of espresso machines-balanced with views of the water that make the world slow down just a little.
Another standout? The chicken club and bacon & egg roll. These are no ordinary sandwiches; they’re stacked, flavorful, and exactly what you’d hope for in a satisfying midday meal. If you're craving something with more flair, the chicken wings or bruschetta might just surprise you. They hit the sweet spot between casual and gourmet, and they pair nicely with a crisp glass of rosé or even a cold beer, depending on your mood.
Accessibility is thoughtfully integrated into the space. Whether you’re arriving with a stroller, wheelchair, or just need extra space, the wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, seating, and toilet ensure that everyone can enjoy the riverside charm comfortably.
And let’s not forget the outdoor seating. On sunny days, it's easily one of the best places in Guildford to relax. You’re by the water, maybe with a light cocktail in hand, the sun catching the ripples, and time feels like it’s on your side. No need to rush-The Boathouse Cafe seems to understand that good food and good moments shouldn’t be hurried.
From the well-curated healthy options to the expertly made coffee and warm, inviting staff, there’s a level of attention here that sets The Boathouse Cafe apart from the usual lunch spots. Whether you're dropping by for a strong espresso and a quick scroll through your emails or settling in with friends for a longer visit, the experience consistently delivers comfort, quality, and a touch of something special.

Definitely my favorite place in Guildford now. It ticks every box with a big fat black sharpie. Beautiful, clean yet warm, zen interior. Impeccable friendly service every time. And the reason you go…the food; which is not only Fabulous, fresh, healthy and delicious but beautifully presented. I need to add that today we went for brunch and I just had the best cappuccino that I’ve ever had here in Guildford. So apparently they do coffee very well too.
The Boathouse is a fantastic little cafe tucked away by the river. They clearly use high-quality ingredients, and it shows in every dish. Their breakfast is a real treat - the sausages are packed with meat, the spinach is perfectly seasoned, and the hash browns are crispy little bites of potato goodness. I particularly loved the English breakfast. The sourdough toast was delicious, the eggs were cooked to perfection, and the whole meal was just really well balanced. The cafe itself is lovely, with great views of the river. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy a delicious breakfast.
The gentilmente that took our order was very polite, friendly and helpful with tips for our needs. The drinks were delicious. We will go there again for some food as it was looking delicious!
We went on Easter Sunday for a set menu roast. It was excellent! Beautifully cooked and served and good value for money. Would be great if they did this more often!
Stumbled across it whilst waiting for our table at the pub. Really lovely venue. Sat outside watching the river and there was lots of seating options. Such a nice spot. Didn’t have food but it looked lovely. Would absolutely recommend and looking forward to going again. Really lovely staff. 10/10
